Paradise Farms

Build a brand that says premium Hawaii candy in English and Japanese.
Ian Killips wanted to create a premium brand of chocolates with unusual Hawaiian flavors aimed at the specialty foods market, and the lucrative Japanese and Western visitor markets. It was our task to come up with a name and brand identity that said "high quality Hawaiian chocolates" in a universal language.

Coming up with an appropriate name that is not already taken is always a challenge. We solved the problem by working with the client and developing the concept for a logo that featured a lush farm in the foreground and a verdant Diamond Head in the background. This communicated Hawaii in any language, and by embossing and printing the name in copper foil, we also sent out a universal signal of premium quality.

The packages were printed in seven colors plus foils. This enabled us to use rich, true colors that were unavailable in the four color process and reinforced the premium feel. A tone on tone motif based on the accent ingredient formed an all-over pattern on the box. The windows let non-english speakers see that it was candy, even if they were unfamiliar with the word chocolate.
